Starting at the end of this month, we are going to begin another fundraising effort. We'll be selling raffle tickets for a Mother's Day Quilt and a Father's Day Quilt. The quilts are absolutely gorgeous, donated by very talented quilters! Tickets may be purchased at the library or from any Friends member for $1/ticket or 6 tickets for $5. The quilts will be raffled individually, with the drawing for the Mother's Day Quilt being held on May 8 and the drawing for the Father's Day Quilt being held on June 12 (need not be present to win). Funds raised will go toward the Summer Reading Program and the purchase of new equipment for the library, like privacy panels between computer workstations and a wireless printer for use with patron laptops.
We are looking for some local artists who are interested in inspiring our community's kids! The theme of this year's summer reading program is "Dream Big," and we'd like to decorate the library with inspirational artwork done by local artists. The kids who participate in the reading program would get to vote for their favorite works, with the artwork going to the kids as prizes. Artists who participate will also be awarded prizes--the ones with the most kid votes win! Anyone interested can talk to Jeri at the library. Stop by or call 246-1313.
Art classes at the library every Friday from 3:45 - 5:00 for patrons of all ages. The lessons are in sketch art, using pencils and charcoals. Each week is a different lesson on how to draw common features in a sketch, like hands, eyes, wings, and hair. By the time you've participated in several classes, you'll be well-equipped to draw your own complete sketches!
