Rocket Monkey was unveiled at the "Undrape the Ape" event on August 20, 2011. Close to 100 people were there on one of the hottest days of the summer to witness the event. Local John Glassco made this three-minute video of the unveiling:

Undrape the Ape Invitation
As Soap Lake holds its collective breath, Rocket Monkey is made ready to be exposed.
In the beginning, there was Rocket Monkey on parade.
Then Rocket Monkey had an idea.
Idea #1 was vetoed. (I don't know why.)
Idea #2 for the giant statue.
