Welcome to Soap Lake for Locals.

This site is for all of you whose ♥ hearts ♥ are in Soap Lake, whether you reside here or not.  It's also for those who are interested in learning more about our community, planning a trip here, or possibly even re-locating.

Soap Lake is  receiving much publicity right now because of the recent developments on the proposed lava lamp project. We invite you to visit the Our Lava Lamp Story page of this website, and in particular to read the three articles posted at the top: http://www.soaplakeforlocals.com/ourlavalampstory/sllavalampproposed.html

For those who do not know about our town and the lake...

Soap Lake is a small community built along the shores of a mineral lake (also named Soap Lake) in central Washington.  According to the 2010 census, we have 1514 residents, give or take a few. Incorporated in 1919, the town has a long history as a healing community.

Beginning hundreds of years ago, Native Americans from various tribes would gather here to trade, dig roots, race horses, and soak in the mineral waters.  Noting its healing properties, they called the lake "Smokiam," meaning healing waters.

Soap Lake's history and mystique are explored in the documentary Dirt Roads, Beachscapes & Bygone Days: A Window to Soap Lake's Past. (See www.soaplakewa.com)

The community is experiencing a mini renaissance, renewing its tradition as a place known for healing for the body, mind, and spirit.

Note: The creation and maintenance of this site is a hobby undertaken by two locals who have lived in Soap Lake for many years.  Soap Lake for Locals is not affiliated with any group or entity.
